Welcome to Hillside Cottage, located in the rural mountain town of Mars Hill. The cottage is a short 1/2 mile to town, where you'll find restaurants, a local coffee shop and ice cream shop, a craft brewery, and Mars Hill University (go Lions!). It is centrally located to all that the region offers - hiking, rafting/kayaking, zip lines, skiing, snow tubing, Asheville, Mt. Mitchell, hot springs, fall foliage, birdwatching, and the Bare Dark Sky Observatory.
The space
The living room and three bedrooms are on the main floor. Each bedroom has a closet and drawer space. Two bedrooms have queen-size beds, and the third has a full-size bed. Sheets, pillows, and blankets are provided. All mattresses and pillows have hypoallergenic protective covers. The living room features a 49" ultra-high-def smart TV with a Firestick connected to the fiber optic network. There’s a second TV and Firestick in the first bedroom. Downstairs, you’ll find the dining room, kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room. The dining room seats six and includes a dedicated workspace in the corner. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to prepare meals — pots, pans, bakeware, cooking utensils, and tableware. Appliances include a full-size refrigerator, oven, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, teapot, and toaster. Pantry items include coffee (enough for 1–2 days), tea, sugar, ketchup, mustard, cooking oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, parsley, cinnamon, basil, and oregano. The bathroom has a bathtub with shower doors. Bath towels and hand towels are provided, along with a hairdryer, soap, shampoo, and conditioner. The laundry room includes a full-size washer and dryer. Laundry detergent and dryer sheets are provided. Two mini-split heat pumps provide heat and A/C for year-round comfort. Built into the side of a hill, the cottage has a large backyard and fenced area for pups in addition to seasonal mountain views. The covered front porch features rocking chairs, a loveseat, and side tables — perfect for relaxing. There’s also a brick patio in the backyard with a table for outdoor dining.
Guest access
You will have full access to the cottage (with the exception of a storage/utility room) and yard. Self-check in via a keypad is provided for your convenience. A new code is created for each visit and is provided prior to your arrival.
Other details
Please note: There are stairs from the parking area down to the front door, and stairs inside the cottage. Also, this mountain town is home to plenty of wildlife — don’t be surprised if you see a bear or a snake!
Interaction with guests
My husband and I live four miles from the cottage and manage it ourselves. This is our only vacation rental, so you’ll have our full attention. We want your stay to be as pleasant as possible — let us know how we can earn your five-star recommendation.

WOW. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I've recently just rented for a 3 month period. The owner, Kathy, has been nothing but accommodating. She replies right away and makes sure you have everything you need. This house is nestled in Mars Hill, which is a cute and quiet town - a great area with everything you need. It is equipped with all of the necessities. All you need to do is to pack your bag. It is also pet friendly and has a great fenced in yard for your furry companions. If it weren't for my work contract ending, I would stay longer. I highly recommend: 10/10

Such a lovely, relaxing stay! Front porch, flowers, pet treats and comfort. Super easy check in and prompt, conscientious communication. My wife and I and three older sisters felt right at home, as did our two small pooches. A short, easy walk to town made this place a convenient gem!

We absolutely loved our stay. We chose Mars Hill because it was close to our cousins who live near Asheville. We had a great time at the Zip and Slide snow tubing attraction which was less than 20 minutes away. Mars Hills is such a quaint college town. We enjoyed getting take out from Stackhouse and highly recommend Camdens Coffee for chocolate croissants and coffee. Kathy's attention to detail with amenities such as 3D Puzzles, doggie treats, and extra towels for drying off muddy paws and feet where much appreciated as rainy weather set in. Perfect place to stay for my family of 3 + one dog. Just note if anyone has a physical limitation be aware that the bathroom and kitchen are down some steep stairs to lower level.

This was the perfect stay! The cottage was equipped with everything we could have needed. Wonderful location, minutes from the shops on Main St as well as Mars Hill University.
